Coto Family's Involvement With Guide Dog Program
Trabuco Canyon News * April 1997 * page 5

Graduation day at Guide Dogs for the Blind, Inc., is a proud one for puppy raisers whose dogs they have raised are presented to blind people as full-fledged guide dogs.
Guide dog puppies are born at the Guide Dogs for the Blind center and raised in foster homes until they are approximately 18 months old. They are then returned to the Guide Dog campus for intensive training and evaluation. Only German Shepherds, Golden Retrievers, and Labrador Retrievers are used by the non-profit Guide Dog organization, which is funded solely by donations.
A few selected of these dogs are such fine representatives of their breed that they are selected to become part of the Guide Dog breeding program. Such is the case of Royal, a black Labrador Retriever, who was raised by Peter and Mary Jo Egus and their tow daughters Julie and Laurie of Coto de Caza.
