Patrice

I made it! After six months of intensive training, I was partnered with Paul, a 48 year old counselor and advocate for the homeless from Richmond, California. We graduated on December 5, 1998. We hit it off right from the start and I hope to make his life a little easier.
It was a very exciting day. My raiser family, the Howards, was there and we were really excited to see each other again. I haven't seen them since they returned me to Guide Dogs last May 17. They were accompanied by another raiser, a friend, and their current puppies. I also got to meet Paul's wife, Kathy, his two grown children, and some of his fellow co-workers. Paul seems to have a wonderful support group around him.

I feel very proud to be doing such an important job and I know Paul and Kathy will take wonderful care of me. They live near the marina and like to take walks there. I am looking forward to my new life with Paul.
In March, 1999, Paul, Kathy, and I moved to Antioch, California.  We live in a single story home with a big backyard for me to play in.  I now get to ride BART everyday with Paul to work.  My raiser family came for a visit on August 5, 1999.  I was very excited to see them.   They had dinner with Paul and Kathy while I got to meet and play with their current guide dog puppy, "Lassen".  We all had a wonderful time together. In October, 1999, I was returned to Guide Dogs. It was a very hard decision for Paul to make. I was re-trained and graduated again on February 5, 2000.
I got to see my raisers again and we were really happy to see each other. I am now living in Laurelton, New York with Sandra.
I get to go to computer, ceramic, and karate classes with Sandra. Her husband also has a guide dog so I have a friend to play with. We are very happy together and I know that I will help Sandra for many years.
