Guide Dogs for the Blind, Inc.

 

Guide Dogs for the Blind, Inc., was established in 1942. It is a tax-exempt charity under the provisions of Section 501 (c) (3) of the Internal Revenue Code.

Guide Dogs for the Blind's purpose is to train purebred dogs (Golden Retrievers, Labrador Retrievers, German Shepherd Dogs) in guide work, and then to train qualified, legally blind people in the use of those dogs.

There is no charge to the blind person for this service. Follow-up services to the blind person and Guide Dog for the working life of the dog, which is about 8 to 10 years, is also provided.

Guide Dogs for the Blind, Inc. is supported entirely by private donors through memberships, bequests, grants, memorial/honor donations and general contributions. We offer a pooled income fund and deferrred giving options to our donors. No government funding is received and it is not a part of any federated campaign. It is alos not affiliated with any other dog guide program in this country or abroad.

Business hours are Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Public graduations take place monthly on Saturdays, at 1:30 p.m. Tours are offered following each ceremony.
