Guide Dogs for the Blind

Guide Dogs for the Blind, Inc., was established in 1942. We are a tax-exempt charity under the provisions of Section 501 (c) (3) of the Internal Revenue Code. Our purpose is to train purebred dogs (Golden Retrievers, Labrador Retrievers, German Shepherd Dogs) in guide work, and then to train qualified, legally blind people in the use of those dogs. There is no charge to the blind person for our service. We provide follow-up services to the blind person and Guide Dog for the working life of the dog, which is about 8 to 10 years. We are supported entirely by private donors through memberships, bequests, grants, memorial/honor donations and general contributions. We offer a pooled income fund and deferred giving options to our donors. We receive no government funding and are not part of any federated campaign. We are not affiliated with any other dog guide program in this country or abroad. Our Mailing address is P. O. Box 151200, San Rafael, California 94915-1200.
