Graduation Day, May 15,
2004,
was
a beautiful sunny day at Guide Dogs for the Blind in San Raphael, California.
Bob and I were very excited to see my raiser's Pete and Mary Jo. We had a
wonderful visit and everyone was saying such nice things about me like "how
handsome you look", "how big you are", "what a wonderful safe guide you are".
I felt pretty special and important.
My name, Abu, means father in African. Pete lost his father in February. I am wearing a harness that was donated in his memory. I will wear it very proudly as I guide Bob, just as a father lovingly guides and cares for his family.
My
brother Able graduated with me. We traveled back to the Guide Dog campus
together last November. I will miss him. We are headed off to different
parts of the country. I will be living in Layton, Utah. Bob has many wonderful
activities planed for us. He is retired and we will be going on may trips. I
think I have a great life ahead of me.
We are leaving today at 3:45 to catch a plane for home. I am excited to see where I will be calling home.

Well,
here I am with Bob in our home in Layton Utah. I know I am going to like
living here. I am busy meeting all Bob's friends and family. We were
even interviewed by a local news paper. Click here

It has been a very busy summer with Bob and I
going many different places and meeting so many new and interesting people.
We attended, as a delegate, the 49th Annual
Blinded Vets convention in Reno. I was a busy guy and handled it with ease and
poise. Bob was very proud of me. Because I was so young, Bob had some
reservations but they were quickly removed after just a few hours there. To
give
you an idea, after only two tries, I was able to guide Bob right to our room,
after getting off the elevator on our floor. I was very proud of myself and I
got lots of praise.
We also went on a Lake Tahoe cruise boat. Here is a picture of us. We had a great time.
The weather here is different than Southern California where I grew up. I am excited about this white stuff that covers the ground during the winter, they call it snow. I think it will fun to play in.
